The Enchanted Forest
Home Arriving in Hobart Exploring Hobart On the Road Strahan Sarah Island Cradle Mountain The Enchanted Forest Launceston

Point at the pictures and the captions will appear

At the Cradle Mountain National Park, we went for a couple of rain forest walks - it was pretty cold and damp, so we rugged and ponchoed up well.

First we sallied forth to the Pencil Pine Falls, an easy walk and very pretty.

Next we thought the Enchanted Wood walk sounded good - I was looking forward to seeing the Faraway Tree or at least a little gingerbread house.

I can see why it is so named: Rima and Green Mansions came to mind. Alas, no glimpse of the ethereal Miss Hepburn, but I had the feeling she was flitting around just out of sight.

Huge trees, lots of coloured lichens, lace-like mossy drapes, crystal rivulets, little waterfalls splashing into clear pools ... very Disney-like.  We didn't actually see any Taswegian fairies, unless you count a couple of fellow-hikers who greeted us in fluting tones as they minced past.

Personalised tea bags!
After our walk we went back to our chalet for a bit of lunch.
We were very thrilled that they had taken the trouble to personalise the tea, coffee and sugar!
